  • 1. Physical Properties Appearance: Bright blue triclinic crystalline granules or lumps, odorless, also known as blue vitriol. Relative density: 2.284 g/cm . Efflorescence: Effloresces gradually in dry air, losing crystal water and turning into white anhydrous copper sulfate powder on the surface. Thermal decomposition: Loses 4 molecules of crystal water at 110 C to form monohydrate copper sulfate; Completely dehydrates into white anhydrous copper sulfate at 150 C; Decomposes into copper oxide, sulfur trioxide and other substances above 650 C. Solubility: Highly soluble in water, soluble in glycerol, slightly soluble in methanol, insoluble in ethanol and ether. Aqueous solution: Sky-blue color, weakly acidic (pH 3.5 4.5) due to hydrolysis of copper ions. Hygroscopicity: Anhydrous copper sulfate has strong water absorption, widely used as a water detection reagent.

Copper(II) Sulfate Pentahydrate, CAS No.7758-99-8, molecular formula CuSO5HO. It is an inorganic heavy metal sulfate hydrate. It appears as bright blue triclinic crystalline granules or lumps, odorless. It effloresces slowly in dry air and turns into white anhydrous copper sulfate powder. Soluble easily in water and glycerin, slightly soluble in methanol, insoluble in ethanol, and its aqueous solution is weakly acidic. It will lose 4 molecules of crystal water at 110C, fully dehydrate at 150C and decompose under high temperature.
It is toxic, irritant to skin and eyes, highly hazardous to aquatic organisms, classified as Class 9 dangerous goods UN3077. Main applications include agricultural fungicide, algaecide for water treatment, copper feed additive, electroplating copper plating solution, mineral flotation agent and laboratory analytical reagent. Packed in 25kg woven bags with PE inner liner.
